Summer Poppies Bridal Inspo | Alpine, Utah
about the session
This summer after finally hearing the hurt voices of the black community, I wanted to do something to help create change. The wedding industry is full of white examples—endless white brides in white dresses with white florals. I thought about little girls of color and how they hardly ever see women who look like them in wedding photographs, and how that might make them feel. I spent hours searching Pinterest for “black brides” + “black weddings” and all my searches came up with was white women in black dresses or weddings in which everyone wore black. I wanted to start doing my part in adding more diversity to the wedding world, which is why I did this styled shoot.
Meet Noelle, who is half Indian, and Andre, who is Ecuadorian. All of us involved wanted this shoot to feel hopeful, bright, fun, and happy. We brought in bright summer colors and a fun Boho dress to really play up the free-spirited vibe we were going for. Poppies were definitely the flower of choice because of their vibrant colors and how fun they get as they grow, plus we thought the complimented Noelle’s skin tone so beautifully. Latterday Bride in Salt Lake City, Utah helped us find a flattering and gorgeous dress and that train was absolutely amazing!
Originally, I wanted to use the poppy fields in Alpine, Utah, but when I went to go check on the blooms, I stumbled upon this yellow field and instantly fell in love. I knew we could make some serious magic with that wildflower field and those mountains in the distance, and magic was made that day. I am so grateful to everyone who helped me put this shoot together. It was a very special group of people with a very special purpose and I am so happy and proud of how this styled shoot turned out.

This was a styled shoot inspired by persons of color. I thought it was time there was more diversity in the wedding industry.
We went with poppies for the bridal bouquet. I wanted something vibrant and happy, and not the standard white bouquet.
Her dress was amazing. A huge thanks to Latterday Bride for this gorgeous dress. I loved the train!
That makeup was incredible. I loved how beautifully the orange highlighted the brides gorgeous skin tone.
