Coco Cake Smash | Family Styled Session in Sandy, Utah
about the session
Isn’t this family the cutest family you’ve ever seen?! Angela, the mom, reached out to me after I photographed her cousin’s wedding. She wanted to see if I could take her son Giovanni’s first birthday photos, and I was delighted to do it!
Angela decided on a Coco theme for the shoot, to honor her Mexican heritage. I loved how bright, happy, and family-focused that theme is. Plus, little Giovanni looks so adorable in his tiny Coco tie! Also can we take a minute and talk about the adorable smash cake? It looks like it could have been part of the movie itself.
We shot this cake smash and family session at Mehreban Wetlands Park in Sandy, Utah. It is such a good summer photoshoot location. The sun peeks through all those trees just right and gives everything a beautiful golden glow. It is tucked away in a little neighborhood and is never too packed with people or photographers. A major plus is that it has paved paths! That made carrying the cake and other props super easy.
My favorite part of this shoot, besides Giovanni, of course, was that Angela’s family came to watch the cake smash! Coco is all about family so it was really touching that Giovanni was surrounded by grandmas, aunts, cousins, and even great-grandparents on the phone! He is one very loved little one-year-old.
Angela was really one of my dream clients. She is such a sweet woman and an incredibly caring mom. She was so excited to plan the details of this shoot, and I’m so glad it all came together exactly the way she wanted it to. Working with clients like her is the best part of this job!
