The Klein Family | Fall Photos at Gambrill Mill

Meet the Klein family! I met Kara, Dan, and Teddy on an overcast day at Gambrill Mill in Urbana, Maryland. This is one of my favorite Frederick area locations to meet for a session because it gives a variety of natural beauty in one easy-to-find space. During my time with the Klein family, we stuck to the field at the end of the boardwalk, which was perfect! We shot after a few days of rain that made the riverbank a little too slick, but this golden field definitely fit the fall vibes they were looking for.

Kara and Dan are such a fun couple. They are the kind of people you meet and they immediately make you feel comfortable and never awkward. Their son Teddy was such a little dream and I couldn't stand how cute his bear hoodie was! TEDDY BEAR! Ah, I love it. He was a little shy at first, as are most one-year-olds when a stranger points a camera toward them, but once he warmed up he was smiley and busy and oh so charming.

One thing I love to do is really get to know my clients before a session. I think knowing a bit about their lives helps me to capture them in a really real way. When Kara told me about her first date with Dan I just knew this family would be so easy-going and fun. Kara and Dan met on OkCupid and decided to meet up for their first date at a dive bar in downtown D.C. after work. Kara was running a little late and showed up frazzled and sweaty, but Dan was so patient and good-humored about it. The bar they chose to meet at was really loud and they were having a hard time hearing one another, so they relocated to a quieter place for the rest of the date. Thanks to some rain they were “stuck” at that second location for a while and totally hit it off!

This session was really such a treat and Kara, Dan, and Teddy were all such troopers. We had to reschedule this shoot due to the weather and then it still started raining during our session. But they were all happy to play with each other and I'm really happy with how the images turned out!
