Golden Light Maternity Photos at the National Harbor | The Christian Family
about the session
I LOVE maternity photoshoots and this one was no exception. There is nothing more beautiful and incredible to witness than an expectant mother who is glowing in all her baby-growing glory. Every pregnant mama deserves a photoshoot that is all about them and their beautiful baby bump.
The beautiful couple in this maternity shoot is Bruny and Afeez. They met when they were both attending graduate school, fell in love, and here they are (almost) two kids later. They come from very different cultural backgrounds which makes for a rich and vibrant family culture now! They have a 14-month-old son named Caius and are about to welcome their second son in a few weeks!
The National Harbor in Maryland is a fun and diverse location in the Washington DC area because it gives you coast, beach, boardwalk, and fun carnival vibes. The only downside is that it can be CROWDED. If you choose to shoot here, you’ll want to make sure there aren’t any other events happening.
We risked the crowds and went on the 20th anniversary of September 11th. So, while there was a lot going on, we managed to find a quiet spot down the walkway and closer to the coast, so we were separate from all the festivities and able to get lots of beautiful shots. Plus, we hit the timing just right and were bathed in that gorgeous golden light that made their photos an absolute dream!
Bruny and Afeez are such attentive and caring parents. Caius is a little ball of energy, and despite being very pregnant, Bruny kept on top of his antics! Mothers really can do it all and I am happy to report (Caius is not) that he didn’t get a single rock in his mouth the whole session, despite a LOT of effort on his part!
I loved this shoot because we worked so well together and were able to chat as if we were old friends, which always makes for really fun photoshoots. I wish this happy family so much joy as they welcome their second child into the world.
fast facts
I love maternity shoots and think every mama deserves a chance to show off that beautiful baby-growing belly of theirs.
This is one of my favorite (and busiest) spots to photograph in Maryland.
Can we have a moment of silence for the gorgeous golden light we had during this shoot?!?!
