Washington DC Surprise Proposal | Tajel & Anush

Say hello to my absolute dream photography client couple, Tajel + Anush. They found me across the country in California and effortlessly connected with me on a personal level before, and then even more so during our shoot. They were stopping in DC on their way to visit their best friends in New York, which gave us the opportunity to have this fateful and amazing surprise engagement photo shoot.
Tajel + Anush met when they both came from India to George Washington University for grad school. They met at the National Monument exactly 6 years ago, after which they moved to California together. Tajel has been trying to plan a wedding back home in India while curveball after curveball has been thrown at them the past couple of years. So Tajel decided to do something fun and propose to Anush back in their college stomping grounds in the exact location they first met!
Anush had no idea Tajel was planning on proposing! She started the surprise by handing him a series of envelopes that her friend Anushi secretly slipped into her hands. Then, at just the right moment, Anushi put the ring box in Tajel's hand and when Anush looked up, Tajel popped the question with Anush's future wedding band. They both laughed and felt absolutely over the moon, as did I as I photographed such a fun proposal.
National Monument is a fabulous Washington DC photography location because it’s one of the “lesser-known” monuments in DC but it’s still absolutely gorgeous. There were no crowds and hardly anyone walked by to “photobomb” our shoot. If you want photos in DC, this is a great option if you’re wanting to avoid people or if you don’t want to take photos at the crack of dawn! It was so fun to walk around the monument and hear this couple’s stories and plan for their future. Their relationship felt so comfortable and easy. You could tell they not only love each other, but they feel totally at home together.
Tajel has kept in touch with updates for their wedding in India this November and has promised to send me photos. I love when clients become like family and I can't wait to see their wedding!
