Meet the DeSoza family! I have been taking photos of Victoria and Marcel for a few years now. They moved to Utah from Brazil for Marcel to attend his MBA program at BYU. I’ve been lucky to have a few sessions with them throughout their years in Utah.
Their son, Ollie, was born after their first year of school. Baby Aurora was born as they were preparing to head back to Brazil at the end of Marcel’s program! It’s so fun that their time in Utah has been bookended by the births of their sweet children. I first met this family when Ollie was six months old and now he’s a lively and adorable two-year-old!
I really love shooting newborn sessions at home. The DeSoza household is basically a photographer’s dream set up. They have neutral paint on the walls and big windows, meaning I had plenty of clean, natural light to work with. They did a wonderful job adding treasured trinkets and photos to make the space beautiful and special.
In-home newborn sessions are also a great way to keep older siblings comfortable and at ease. We took photos with Ollie for about 20 minutes and then he ate lunch and watched a show while I finished the session with Aurora and her parents. It was honestly a perfect setup for everybody.
It has been such a treat for me to watch this family expand and change over the years. Aurora was born right as COVID quarantines began, so we waited a while to do this shoot for everybody’s health and safety. I was so glad I got to see them all one more time before they headed home to Brazil. Their family love is so evident. They’re patient with their children and everybody else they meet. I even left this session with two bits of Portuguese! “Baci” for kiss and “Que linda” for so cute!
