Isn’t the Merrill Family just so cute? I absolutely loved taking their family photos. You can really tell from their images that they are a happy family who just enjoys being together. Kristen, McKay, and their kids were so wonderful to work with!
One part of my job that I love is getting to know my clients on a personal level. Kristen and McKay are incredible parents and consistently work together to make the best life they can for their family. Both Kristen and McKay are advocates for mental health as well as children’s mental wellness. They’re generous, empathetic, and have the best attitudes about the curve balls life throws at them. They are just the best kind of people!
We decided to take the Merrills family photos at Squaw Peak in Provo, Utah. Squaw Peak is always beautiful but it’s especially so in the early summer. When you go early enough, it’s so green, you’d think you’re in the Alps. We were lucky to have perfect weather for this shoot– it was a gorgeous evening! This particular location can be a little tricky to get to since it’s only accessible via a dirt road, but it’s well worth the drive for views like this.
The Merrills got there right as the sun was setting and we had moments to get photos before we were completely in the dark. We worked so well together, creating games for the kids while we went through various groupings, and their attitudes were everything. If they’d come that close to sunset and been frustrated or short with each other, we wouldn’t have had any success. But because they came smiling and ready, even if the evening didn’t go as they’d planned, we were able to get photos that they can cherish forever.

Pro-tip: As the parent, you set the mood for your kids! Being happy and excited about photos really will really help your little ones.
